recent poem (partial)

November 2, 2009
tags:

wrote this last week and tried it out at open mic on sunday.  I like the sounds of it.

Enter the bedroom

get ready to be dug in

buried with pillows and blankets

nightstands

nightshades

nights to remember

Forget appointments and obscurities

conjoined twins and paternities

term papers and insecurities

Enjoy a scent of lavender

a sense of power burn

deep in cushions meant to deflower her

Grope the bedposts

with sweaty hands

scarred by battles from on night stands

To define this place

is to walk into a dictionary

and know where to sit

the proper word to get behind

has its own limit

It isn’t a sanctuary as many would have it

it’s a destination in flux

depending on your habit

But back to the feeling

of burial in boxer shorts,

open the wrong door

and you better bring a good book
